The Playhouse Post

One. Two. Three.
Three little playhouses for you to see.
This was the season for the playhouse in our family.
Does this mean we like to play?
I think so.

When Bob and I looked at this property in Maple Ridge ten years ago he told me, "I sure hope you like the house!" Truth be told, Bob was smitten by the size of the property and the potential he saw in it for a garden and I was smitten by the tiny cottage playhouse that was nestled in the back. I remember standing in the loft of it with Gina and I started to cry with the joy of dreaming of becoming a Grama and having a playhouse for the future little ones. Needless to say, we bought the house and property.

Yes, I like the house! We just celebrated ten years from the date of purchase and we have certainly had a few projects and have lived a lot of life in this place.

The most recent project was a playhouse for Sophia who lives here with her mommy and daddy. Grampa Bob now has a little subdivision with all the outbuildings dotting the property.

And since my grandchildren have become a reality in my life they have also moved on to having their very own playhouses. This then has now freed up Grama to use her playhouse for Grama aged 'children'. I went ahead and cleared out all the little dolls and things and have created a little haven for me to find a quiet retreat for myself and my friends. It is a fabulous place for reading, writing and conversation.

It is still very user friendly for all ages and all are welcome.

In fact, Bob just participated in a garden show last Sunday and the cottage was a huge hit with all who entered. I have a feeling though, that many a husband has had to listen to his wife explain how 'she needs' a little place for herself now.

You can see my grandchildren's playhouses on their mommy's blogs...just click on and view.
Sophia's Playhouse

Sam and Lola's Playhouse

And now here is Casa Linda Cottage revisited with a fresh coat of paint...Enjoy the tour!

Unbeknownst to Gina or myself, we both chose yellow for the house and blue for the door.
Variations on the same color scheme.

Sheila gave me an oversized chair. Thanks, Sheila!

I found this little vanity desk the very day I went looking for something to fill the space.

Thank you to Bob for hammering in some wood paneling.

Repurposing an old gold mirror.

This is my chicken wire dream board waiting to be filled with dreamy things.
So there you have a sampling of my little cottage. As I type this post I am packed and ready to head out the door for a three week tour in Vietnam with hubby. We will have a great time but you can imagine that I will be thinking of my little cottage back home and looking forward to many happy hours in it this summer. You should stop by for a visit soon!

  1. When I was a little girl I read a book "Laurie and the Yellow Curtains" about the found cottage at the back of the family's new home. (I might have the title wrong) Laurie (or my spelling: Lori) cleaned out that cottage and fixed it up, and one memorable day made brownies in there. A secret place, doing delightful things...it has always held a soft spot in my heart and in my imagination. And there it is. My dream cottage. Enjoy!!! You have made the setting gorgeous -- sister Lori

  3. It looks great mom! I showed it to Sam and Lola and it got oohs and aaahhs and Sam said, "Oh, It looks exactly like our playhouse but it is grama's!" and he was pretty excited about that. We'll get to see it soon.
