48 hours

Good Friday Morning! Friday the 13 of November. It is just storming outside this morning. Unfortunately I missed my bike class, so I'm back home and about to embark onto the treadmill but not before dawdling at the computer for a few minutes. Isn't Grampa Bob adorable with Lola? This was taken right before we drove Gina to Vancouver to attend her wedding. We had such a sweet, sweet time with the girls here from Sunday noon till Tuesday noon - 48 precious hours. I'll never forget it. So rare, so cherishable. One of the things we managed to do on Monday was finish the famous Amy Butler Birdie Sling Bag for Gina to use as a diaper bag/purse. I intended to have it ready for her but had only managed to cut it out beforehand. In the long run it worked out well because it was nice to sew with Gina. Many hands make light work and we worked together to finish the project.

The Birdie Sling

I woke up this morning thinking about the quilt I am going to make Lola. It's definitely my next big project and having these early morning thoughts is a good sign that I'm preparing myself for the task ahead. It is not exactly in my comfort zone but it will be an enjoyable venture. The fabrics are so sweet and little girlie. The thing with patching together fabrics is that it starts with exactness and flows into creativity. I had all sorts of deep thoughts about how our days become these patchwork blocks to put into the big quilt but I'll spare you my musings.
I finished a book yesterday called Still Alice that Cathie gave me to read. It's fiction, about a 50 year old woman who is diagnosed with early on set Alzheimer's Disease. It was well written and in the voice of Alice herself as she experiences this. It was all too close to home but I'm glad I read it. I ended the day by listening to a 92 year old woman wax eloquently behind a pulpit at Imageo Dei. What an encouragement that was and such a lesson in contrasts and comparisons between two women. Sandwiched in there I read a chapter from a book by Edith Schafer who was probably in her sixties when she wrote it. She again being a strong woman of God with deep faith but a total sense of practicality regarding the Scriptures. We are all so different but all have a path to journey upon that belongs to us alone. It shows me that the future is in the hands of God and that His Grace is Sufficient, no matter what life brings.
So live out this present day to the fullest and one day you will look back and see that patchwork block placed somewhere in the great quilt of life. Pretty deep, eh? Enjoy your day and see you soon. Lovingly,
