The word diffusive is to pour out and spread as a fluid. Jesus promises that if we believe in Him (John 7:38) rivers *(or streams) of living water would flow from us.
He had told the people that where He was going they could not come, that they would look for Him but would not find Him. (It reminded me of Mary at the tomb looking for Jesus and not finding Him, not knowing where they put Him)
Yet in the next verses Jesus says that they could come and drink if they were thirsty! Currently, it would be impossible but soon he would be glorified and the Holy Spirit would be given and ‘poured out’ - the spirit would be poured out and poured in to the believer where now we talk about the river of God being diffused from us!
Psalm 36:8 - You give me drink from the river of delights, for with you is the fountain of life
Psalm 46:4 - There is a river, the streams whereof make glad the city of God
Psalm 105:41 - He opened the rock and water gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river
Isaiah 48 speaks of peace like a river, righteousness like the waves of the ocean
Ezekiel 47 - the river that could not be measured - when it flowed into the salt water everything was made fresh; it became the source of life, healing and fruitfulness
Revelation 22 - The river of water of life flowed from the throne of God
The devotion of today encourages me to continue to look directly to the source, not to be distracted by the river or by the obstacles, but to continue to look to Jesus the author and the finisher.
OC constantly reminds us that our usefulness CANNOT BE MEASURED and we err when we try to do so.
