Altered Books

It's time for a little show and tell. Unless you have visited my home in the last two years you probably haven't seen my little altered books that I started making after Sam and Sophia were born. You start with a children's board book like the ones shown here. I peel off the glossy layer so that the glued papers that I apply have a good surface to stick to but some sand the books and some use double sided tape as their medium.
This is the first little book that I made which features Sam and Sophia as little wee ones.

This one was a larger book and I covered it with chenille.

It starts with Chris and Laura's wedding....

...but it features Sophia's first year.

This one is an actual book used as a scrapbook.

Today's feature will be the Christmas album I made this year. I'll give you a peek inside.

Le Petit Boulanger and her Fornaio di Nonna.

Climbing up the mountain of gifts.
Whew! Made it.

What more can be said?

This one opens up...

...to reveal Auntie Sara and Sophia ice skating.

Happy Laura

I hope you've enjoyed the show.
I have so many ideas for upcoming projects.
It's lots of fun.
You ought to try making one yourself!

  1. I love these. Last spring I helped teach a class on how to make these. The kids..other people's kids.. made funny looking ones (not nearly as lovely as yours!!), but then we made a few more in our home and they're so beautiful. My problem is finishing....i never seem to get the pictures in them...but they're cute anyway! Thanks for sharing your books with us.

  4. After you described altered books to me I went shopping for a few cardboard books to try my hand at it. It will much more fun now that I've seen your beautiful books. Thanks for the inspiration, even though it looks like a lot of work! --Lori
